When you drop your defenses and become genuine, some people will walk away. For some people, the thought of their becoming genuine seems to frighten them. Others simply don't desire that depth in their lives and are content with superficial relationships, just knowing someone is around if needed. Those responses are fine. I understand them. In such cases, I'll still love the people—but I won't entrust my friendship to them.
